what: International Schools Project
when: Sunday 03 May 2009 -
where: Bury Archives Centre
Philip Davenport will work on two international projects for the 2009 Text Festival. A Shared Loneliness is an enquiry into the nature and the ムspaceメ of human loneliness; Davenport will develop works for this in Holland and China. He will also oversee a collaboration between Parenthorn School in Bury, the International School in the Hague, and Stroom gallery in the Hague, devising a large-scale video work with hundreds of students. This piece is a set of variations on the concrete poem Grin by British experimental poet Bob Cobbing. Cobbing's work (and that of all the concrete poets) is not taught UK schools, so this is both a response to Cobbing's spirit of play and a correction of the UK Eng Lit syllabus.
