The Text Archive
The Text Art Archive is an AHRC funded project run in collaboration between Bury Art Museum and Archives, and the Contemporary Poetics Research Centre at Birkbeck, Universityof London. The project is curated by researcher and practitioner, Holly Pester who began the project by bringing works and documentation from the past three Text Festivals into a comprehensive collection. The Text Festival in Bury is an internationally recognised event investigating contemporary art practices including, poetry, text art, sound art and performance. The Text Art Archive uses the body of work gathered through Text Festival projects and exhibitions, and the network of artists as a foundation to build an evolving archive that will reflect and generate new international text art practices.
Through donations and key acquisitions of contemporary works and collections the archive will become a dynamic project space that offers both critical reflection and pre-emptive activity. The archive project will be a focus point for continuing links between Bury Art Museum and Birkbeck’s CPRC as well as strengthening collaboration between the Art Museum and Archive institutions at Bury. The archive will be available to researchers, artists and interested audiences for both the communication and production of language-based art practice. This innovative project will produce fresh models of practitioner-led archival engagement and critical commentary on the contemporary field of arts engagement with archival collections.
